Mark Manders

Born in 1968. Contemporary artist. Since Manders adopted the concept of “Self-Portrait as a Building” in 1986, all his works have constituted part of a single, mammoth, self-portrait. His drawings and sculptures evolve continuously and organically according to how they are combined in his “imaginary rooms.” He participated in various international art exhibitions such as the 24th São Paulo Biennale (1998) and Documenta 11 in Kassel (2002), represented the Netherlands at the Dutch pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013), and will be presenting a large-scale exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo in 2021.
